19th Century Grand Tour Bronze Sphinx Candlesticks

Article number: Art-2310
Availability: In stock (1)

Sphynx cats are known for a variety of things (beyond just their hairless appearance)! In Egypt, cats were believed to be magical creatures, capable of bringing good luck and grace to the people who housed them. Honor was paid to the animals through a variety of ways, which we can see reflected in art of the period.

In Egyptian mythology, sphinxes are often depicted as a man, closely associated with pharaohs. Motifs on the statues suggest strength and ferocity; and now is your opportunity to bring a little bit of this right into the comfort of your own home.

These candlesticks are sold only as a pair. Both are in excellent condition with no outstanding damage. Each measures 10” high and the base is 4” by 6.75”. Even if you choose to not house candles in the pillars, these would still add an interesting touch to your table spread or shelf!
